This book was interesting. At first I thought that it would be my first DNF but then I got hooked. I also thought it was going to be more of The Sundown Motel vibe.
• I would like to start off and say that I got this from BOTM and they said it was a thriller (a long stretch in my opinion). But it was good nonetheless.
• I loved putting the pieces together, I struggled a bit when it would flip characters and different times of the day or the day before but it all makes sense in the end.
- Almost everyone had a motive to kill the victim, which as I read it, who I thought was going to be killed never changed, it was just who killed the victim that surprised me, especially shy which when I was reading I never understood why Foley gave certain information but when it comes down to it, it made a good book.
This book definitely has good plot twists too. Just going off of plot twist I’d give it four stars.
My favorite plot twists in the book:
- Page 226: I knew something was up, it’s not just a detail to give the character more depth but that was was what got me hooked on this book.
- Page 290: When she finally figures out what she presumed she already knew. it couldn’t be a coincidence, can it? Does Jules really know her fiancé?
- Page 305: When I thought the other plot twists were big this one blew me out of the water!
The characters:
- Jules: She is a goal-getter, she owns her own business and got the guy of her dreams, but she has this underlying frustration. She’s also a perfectionist someone says something wrong or does something wrong she has an angry episode which is alluded to throughout the book.
- Will: He isn’t given any POV points until the end but the other characters do describe him fairly well, he’s a TV star who went to an all-boys school (this comes up a lot in the book, but in the end, it makes sense why Foley kept repeating it.) He’s got it all, the personality, the looks, and the career.
- Olivia: She was by far the character I related most to, based on age and her attitude. She has a deep secret that tries to get it out to Hannah tries to get it off her chest, she is probably the most detailed character in the book.
- Hannah: She is the plus one and Charlie’s wife ( Charlie is Jules’ long-time friend), she is such a mothering figure towards Olivia and is trying to make herself fit in because it’s obvious that she doesn’t fit in. This made me question why the author made such a big deal to write her parts in the story but like always it makes sense in the end.
- Johnno: He is also such a minor character but he reveals a lot about Will, it was said over and over again that he and will don’t “match” they just don’t look correct as friends.
- Aoife: She is the wedding planner and a major character by the end, she’s got a dark past and a terrible reason to draw the couple to the island.
But as a whole book, it really wasn’t something I truly loved. After the three plot twists it’s as if the author was in a hurry to get the book finished and it just ended.
So I had to give it three and a half stars.
